Maura O’Donoghue is the founder and owner of Luam Wellness.

Maura is deeply passionate about supporting and empowering people to live healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Maura’s vision is for people from all backgrounds and abilities to have access to supportive health and wellbeing services. This includes access to a wellness service that meets each person’s unique needs, strengths, challenges and capacities.

Throughout Maura’s life she has used a wide range of wellness practices and enjoyed the wonderful and deep benefits of taking a more holistic approach to her own life and wellbeing. This led to a growing desire to share these practices with others, so they too could have the opportunity to experience the benefits.

Maura worked professionally as a qualified Social Care Worker with young people in Residential and Aftercare Services for over 20 years within the HSE, Tusla and Community/Voluntary Sector.  It is work that she continues to feel incredibly enthusiastic and inspired by. Through this work Maura saw that mainstream wellness services were not meeting the more diverse needs of these young people . She felt they were missing the incredible benefits of wellness practices, as most services did not have the therapeutic and multifaceted skills required to support them.

Building on her Degree in Social Care and Master’s in Social Research, Maura also continued to develop her qualifications and skills in the Wellness arena. Over many years, she gained professional qualifications in Massage Therapy, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, and Meditation Facilitation. Maura also trained as a Yoga teacher. This journey allowed her to bring together a strong academic background, over 20 years of professional social care practice and a deep knowledge and understanding of wellness practices.

From the beginning of this journey, Maura knew she wanted to create a different kind of wellness service with connection and relationship at the core, a wellness service that inspires and engages all those involved, especially those who may not normally access such services. For Maura, this is the driving force behind Luam Wellness.

As Luam Wellness develops, Maura continues to offer unique wellness experiences to those who feel passionate about their own wellbeing. From restorative self-care practices to soothing and relaxing reflexology, massage and aromatherapy treatments, to transformative yoga and meditation classes.

However, a key focus is now the provision of bespoke wellness services and events for a range of communities and individuals including young people in the care and aftercare system, students in mainstream and alternative educational settings, those involved with mental health services, women’s groups and other marginalised communities. Luam Wellness also works with those seeking to bring about positive change in our communities.

Maura is also a qualified TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) Trainer and has taught staff teams throughout the Munster region for over 10 years. She lectures on the Certificate in Trauma-informed Care in University College Cork.
